Mount Augustus(Burringurrah) rises abruptly 715 metres out of an extensive, stony, red sand plain of arid shrub land and is 1105 metres above sea level. It is situated 430 Kms from Carnarvon, or 360 Km from Meekatharra, but a very pleasant two hour flight from Geraldton. Mount Augustus, lesser known than Uluru, is an asymmetrical anticline and a spectacular sight during the day, and amazing to see at both sunrise and sunset. Our tour, in our Bonanza Aircraft, takes you from Geraldton direct to Mount Augustus in a two hour flight that passes over farming areas, and sparsely populated pastoral stations. Before landing we will fly around the southern face of the Mount. And then land at the Mount Augustus Outback Resort which is situated on a working cattle station. Subject to availability a vehicle can be hired to drive to Cattle Pool and to Flintstones, the site of some ancient Aboriginal rock art. Overnight accommodation is at Cobra Station Homstead, the site of the Bagemall Inn, where you can enjoy the sunset and sunrise. Next morning we depart for Carnarvon, a coastal town famous for its fruit and vegetables, and we fly over the spectacular Kennedy Ranges enroute. After refuelling, and the chance for lunch at one of the outdoor cafes in town, or one of the banana plantations, we return to Geraldton via the Hamelin Pool, then track the Kalbarri Murchison River Gorges to Geraldton.
